আমি আমার ছোটবেলায় প্রতিরাতে আমার নানুর গল্প শুনতে শুনতে ঘুমাতাম ৷ যদিও প্রতিরাতেই একই গল্প বলত তবুও আমি কখনো বিরক্ত হইনি এবং আগ্রহ হারাইনি ৷ একেবারে সাধারন এই গল্প শুনে আমি ভাবতাম বেশী ভালবাসাও অনেক সময় ক্ষতিকর ৷ গল্পটি অনেকটা এরকম , অনেক দূরগ্রামের এক মহিলার দুই ছেলে ৷ একজন নিজেরছেলে অপর জন সতিনের ছেলে ৷ মহিলা দুই ছেলেকেই লালন পালন করত ৷ তবে নিজের ছেলেকে সে খুবই বেশী ভালবাসত ৷ একদিন নদী পার হবার সময় সে অধিক ভালবেসে তার নিজের ছেলেকে বুকে জড়িয়ে ধরে এবং সতিনের ছেলেকে বলে পিঠে উঠতে ৷ এভাবে নদী পার হবার সময় নিজের ছেলে পানির নিচে থাকায় দম বন্ধ হয়ে নড়াচড়া করে ৷ এতে মহিলা আরও বেশী শক্ত করে আকড়ে ধরে ৷ এভাবে নদী পার হয়ে দেখে নিজের ছেলে মারা গেছে কিন্তু সতীনের ছেলেকে অযত্নে আনলেও সে বেঁচে আছে ৷ মূল কথা হচ্ছে অতিরিক্ত ভালবাসা ক্ষতির কারন ৷
When I was young, every day my grandmother would tell stories to me as I fell asleep. Although it was the same story every time, I would never get bored or impatient. It would be a simple story, but I would think about how too much love can sometimes spoil a person. The story would go something like the following: in a village in the outskirts of the world, there was once a lady who had a son of her own and a stepson as well. She would care for both of the sons, but would show extreme favoritism and much more affection towards her own. One day, the lady would need to cross a river. Then, she took her own son and held him nicely within her chest. On the other hand, the lady did not hold her stepson but rather instructed him to climb onto her back. As the lady tried to cross the river, the child on her chest started to suffocate. As he flailed around, she would hold him closer to her chest each time with increasing love. Upon crossing the river, she checked upon her biological son and realized that he suffocated and passed away. Nonetheless, the child on her back was safe and well. The moral of this story would be that too much love can be bad and spoil oneself.
