Guys please study…. Junior year is rocking my world. Also, hope for good teachers it’s really important. Also lock in since Junior year is important for college.

Marley Lee-Kang, 2025

Just start writing sometimes it’s not how to start but when you’re starting.

Franklin, 2025

Learn all about clubs please! Clubs and other extracurriculars are crucial, try joining any that you’d find interesting or fun (Key Club’s my go-to! You can help people while having fun with club members and friends). Trust me, if you wait out during freshman year, you’ll regret it next year. Clubs help you get closer to the school community and meet so many more people. I mean, even Vox is a club in itself!

Aayan Hussain, 2025

Post slides of the notes on Google classroom so students can reference them. Also, have informative and practice edpuzzles posted. Keep track of duolingo assignments by posting them on Google classroom, since not everyone has the app.

Ferdousy Jannath, 2027

Do not, and I repeat do not procrastinate.  It will be your downfall when it's time to make up your grades, your assignments, and asking your teachers for recs and raves.  If you're feeling stressed out, don't use your phone at all, instead go to sleep.  It may sound ridiculous but I promise you it will make your mind more free instead of being tired from not sleeping and attempting to lock in.  Make friends with the upper classmen, all the advice I got from them were so helpful and I'm really thankful for it. Finally, join the after school activities you actually like, and that you actually want to commit to and gain leadership that you can use on your college application.

Joy, 2025

Make sure that you have time for yourself. Also, if you're one of those people (like me) who has no idea how to make and keep friends, ask around, and try your best. People will come to you, but it's up to you to make them stay.

Suri, 2027

Dear incoming 8th graders: a lot of you are gonna be really intimidated by all the classes and the fancy subject names and the fact that everyone seems to already know everything about all the subjects and you’re less prepared than others and every tv or movie trope about high school. But that’s not the case of how it really is. After like 2 weeks or something of navigating the school and memorizing your schedule it’s like super easy. And don’t be afraid to go out to lunch because the white truck has some of the best food on the block and the school lunch is so trash. Also you might have heard from seniors or big sibs or whoever that there’s not that much homework and then they say “oh it’s a light hour and a half each night” and you’re like “WHAT that’s so much time!” But as a freshman there’s barely any homework at all; it’s not even guaranteed that there’ll be homework on any given night.

Asher Kentsis, 2027

Sophomore year is the year of relaxed pressure. Try to enjoy it while you can. There’s still time, but you gotta get running. Math-wise, if you want to skip Pre-Calculus, use your time wisely! The days pass by really quickly, so get the required ALEKS done as fast as you can (2000+ topics to master in total).

Though the future may seem daunting, you don’t have to rush to get everything figured out. You can still explore new things and join new clubs. Find things that have meaning to you, something that will always be a part of your life. And utilize the resources Bronx Science provides! Don’t be afraid to ask around if you need anything— you might be surprised!

In general, take advantages of all opportunities, and don’t be deterred just because you feel like you might not get chosen— you’re underestimating yourself! Don’t be discouraged by rejection either— let it motivate you! Failures may seem like cracking the already-thin ice below you, but try not to dwell. At the end of the day, it will work out. Just have confidence in yourself, get out there, and try!

Caroline Jiang, 2026

Do not leave your stuff in the gym locker without a lock. Some people are kinda rude and theres no cameras in the locker rooms so if something gets stolen you kinda cant do anything about it. Try to either get a locker or leave it with a friend that has a free in the cafeteria. Also an Apple Air Tag makes people want to steal it more so hide it in your device or wallet if you want the security.

Edwin, 2025

Honestly I think that although everyone always talks about grades, obviously you should try but if a grade isn’t what you want don’t get in your head about it because in the end of the day it’s just one test or assignment and it won’t matter at all in a few years or even one year. Also, if doing an extracurricular makes you very very stressed or not happy then you really shouldn’t keep doing it and try to find an extracurricular that does make you happy.

Matthew, 2025

Start looking for opportunities early and always start assignments as soon as possible, don't procrastinate.

Mariama Keita, 2026

Don’t bully yourself when the world is already bullying you! Self respect is the key to building a strong character

Sophia Qiu, 2027

The beginning of Freshman year will be kind of scary but it gets better. Use your resources like Big Sibs and your guidance counselors.

Daniel Humphries, 2027

Get out of your comfort zone! Explore new clubs, classes, and conversations with people you may have never thought you would talk to. The world is your oyster and Bronx Science is a spectacular place to explore new interests and to gain insight on corners of the world that you never knew about. Meet new people. They're not as scary as they seem.

Jacey Mok, 2024

Try not to pile on too many extracurriculars or AP classes onto your schedule. Eventually it's going to feel like too much, and at some point it's going to seem like you have no direction. Choose your ECs and APs carefully, not just because of time management reason but also so it seems like you have a cohesive and well-constructed resume when it's time to apply to colleges, internships, etc. If you're strongly interested in a particular profession or simply something you're passionate in, definitely look for youth-led organizations you can become a volunteer or board member for. Most run remotely, the workload isn't as heavy as a job or other internships, and you'll be in a community of people your age that want to make the same sort of changes you do to the world. It's a good introduction to working with others to complete tasks, publish work, host events, etc, that you may need in college or internships you apply to later.

Ruby Moran, 2024

Make the study guides for freshman chemistry! Not only can they raise your grade but they definitely help with understanding. In all classes study guides are always a plus.

Joshua, 2025

Amidst all of the stress of sophomore year, try to find joyful moments, for these small moments of happiness contribute to a successful year.

Aviv Weiss Kaplan, 2026

Take AP Latin and enjoy yourself. If you don't want to take the AP then don't.

Kenae Taylor, 2024

2 pieces of advice is to try to have a general background of what subject you will be taking next year. For example, if you are taking chemistry next year, try to have a general understanding of the topics in the class because it will be 10x easier for you guys. You should join as any clubs you can and a team because you want to see what you will be interested in because it will help you get a leadership role.

Adiba Hossain, 2027

Have fun and try new things. Transitioning into high school can be difficult so take it slow and enjoy the experience.

Falisha, 2026

Don't be afraid to make new friends! Explore the many clubs/teams that Bronx Science offers, and have fun!

Anonymous, 2024

Omg I'm being so fr with you when I say that you CANNOT procrastinate on any assignments no matter how insignificant you think they are... Once you start missing those assignments it's only going to get worse. You're gonna feel really overwhelmed the longer you don't work on them. Not only does it cause a toll on your academic life but rends your social life ASUNDER (since you'll be busy working on those late assignments instead of relaxing with your friends!!!!!). Don't feel hopeless if you're in this situation or if you often find yourself falling into this trap!! My best advice for you is to start on the assignment as soon as you receive it or at least check what it's about. Write something, anything! It feels far less overwhelming when you're not staring at empty Google docs a day before the essay is due!! You got this!! <3

Lee, 2026

Be sure to study hard.

Benjamin Schmutter, 2025

Try out new passions and interests in your first two years here. Generally, don’t be afraid to take risks before junior year; there’s more leniency when you make mistakes, and it’ll always be an opportunity to teach you about yourself as a person.

Kenneth, 2025

Write those events down! Don't completely rely on your memory, use the school's physical calendar or something online to make note of important dates such as exams or deadlines; you will forget something eventually so write it down so that you don't have to worry about it later.

Monara Manir, 2025

Actually use the textbooks that the school gives you because they have the right materials and exercises to help you practice. They have all the topics used in the curriculum and needed for the LOTE and it is helpful if you use it to your advantage.

Samaira Lakhotia, 2027

Inspired by something my history teacher said: It's normal to stress over things, but whatever happens, it probably won't be the worst that ever happens to you, nor the best! Just put in your best effort, and enjoy high school while you can.

Julie, 2026

Junior year is when you will start to see workloads far beyond what you may have experienced in your sophomore or freshman year. This is because not only will you likely have more APs in your junior year than you did in your freshman and sophomore years, you will also have to start worrying about your college process and the work that comes along with applying to college. Therefore, maintaining a good schedule is one of your highest priorities this year to make sure you don't get overloaded and burnt out. The planner that you will receive at the beginning of the year is an excellent way to keep track of deadlines, with Google Calendar being another option if you prefer to keep things digital. Good luck!

Justin Huang, 2025

Since college isn't far away for many of us, I think giving advice on how to prepare for it is important. For example, while it's crucial to work hard on academic studies, it's just as important to get to know those who can help you along the journey, such as your guidance counselors and admissions officers for colleges and universities you might be thinking about. It's also good to have a balance between your classes and extracurriculars. Make sure to invest time into clubs/teams you're interested in, just as you would invest time into studying for your class exams. Above all else, enjoy every positive memory you make here. At the end of your four years, you won't remember cramming for that one chemistry exam, or how long you worked on that history essay- you'll remember your friends and teachers, and the lasting connections you made along the way.
